Crothersville Community Schools & Google Cloud

The former server infrastructure was no longer covered under manufacturer warranty, and it was cost-prohibitive to extend warranty support on infrastructure that was starting to show its age. Since the school was due for a hardware refresh, the school wanted to look at options that provided increased flexibility to adapt to the future needs of the school.

Utilizing Compute Engine and Cloud VPN, we were able to duplicate the school’s existing environment as a fixed monthly operational expense instead of large capital expenditure while also providing the school with the flexibility options they wanted for future needs. Along with the school’s technology director, we decided to migrate their server workloads to Google Cloud Compute Engine.

Five Star Professional Development

  • The budget needs of the school were met by moving from a CapEx model to an OpEx model.
  • The district saw increased the performance of servers by using modern hardware and solid-state drives on just the resources requiring high IOPS.
  • There was zero downtime for the school when moving to Cloud compared to an estimated 8 hours if upgrading the on-premise solution.
  • The expense that was needed for running and cooling the former on-premise solution was eliminated.

A small district has big needs with an aging server. Crothersville charged Five Star with migrating the existing server to Google Cloud, saving time and money.

“Five Star provided a seamless migration. Google has been an integral part of our academic success over the years. This migration improved our ability to utilize capital dollars in areas that focus more on student learning and less on hardware replacement.”
