Let’s boil down learning to what we truly need to make it happen in its most concentrated form. I will name off some of the ingredients in your average school day…Classroom? Don’t need it. Books? Don’t need those. Standards? Nope. Projectors? I don’t think so. Are you getting the picture?

boys-1782427_1920.jpgThe only thing a teacher truly needs to help make learning happen is a student and a relationship with that student. As teachers, the power to build relationships is always in our hands, but it isn’t always easy. One way to strengthen a relationship is by giving. As teachers, we can give students experiences and opportunities that they might not ever be able to access again. In other words, we can create opportunities for learning that will go a long way in strengthening student relationships and result in deeper learning. If we focus on the right things, all of the other outside pressures and influences that we struggle with daily will fall into place.

I believe building a relationship with students is the most valuable part of teaching, and creating the right opportunities for learning strengthens the teacher-student relationship by building trust. At Five-Star, we have developed 8 Awesome Learning Opportunities teachers can use in their classrooms that will help students become more innovative learners. While it might not be possible to provide all eight opportunities every day, lessons designed with these in mind can make a huge difference in your classroom.

Opportunity’s Knocking

Try designing a lesson with one of these 8 opportunities in mind, and start building an environment where students and teachers trust and learn together. Once you allow students to experience these opportunities, you are sure to see positive changes in the quality of their learning! Click on an opportunity to see a video explanation of how it can transform your students’ learning.
